Hoag Named a CMS 5-Star Hospital for Fifth Straight Year

    Hoag's award-winning hospital

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., May 19, 2026 — Hoag has once again earned a five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), marking the fifth consecutive year the health system has received the agency’s highest distinction for hospital quality.

The CMS Star Ratings system evaluates hospitals nationwide on a range of performance indicators, including mortality rates, safety of care, readmissions, and timely and effective treatment. It was created to help consumers easily compare hospitals to make more informed decisions about their care. A five-star quality rating reflects a hospital’s superior performance across these measures and places Hoag among the top-performing hospitals in the country.

“This recognition reflects the extraordinary commitment of our physicians, nurses and staff to delivering exceptional care every day,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, president and CEO of Hoag. “To earn CMS’ highest quality rating for a fifth consecutive year speaks to the consistency of our outcomes, the strength of our culture, and our unwavering focus on patients. We continue to invest in the people, technology and innovation that allow Hoag to deliver world-class care right here in Orange County.”

Hoag’s consistent 5-star quality designation is the result of a systemwide focus on measurable quality outcomes, continuous improvement, and a patient-first culture. From implementing evidence-based protocols to expanding access to specialized care, Hoag continues to lead with accountability and a commitment to advancing health care in the region.
